It takes 150 votes from 1200 polling booths in NSW

I am contacting you all at this late moment just to comment that I worked out that I need 150 primary votes from at least 1200 polling locations and that gives me more than an even chance of being elected to the Senate in NSW as an INDEPENDENT.

I also want to clarify about the Republican-Democrat label that sometimes appears against my name. I did make inquiries about the Republican-Democrats and was put up on their website, but decided it was in my best interest to remain an INDEPENDENT. I am not a member of the Republican-Democrats; I have not signed up with them and they are not yet a registered party.

This is my authorised election website and I’m INDEPENDENT. Thanks for your support and please circulate this notice…

Cheers Michael

Media release: Gillard’s forced relocation is not an acceptable policy

MEDIA RELEASE

GOODOOGA NSW

17 AUGUST 2010

ECKFORD says: “Forced relocation is not an acceptable policy.”

The PM Julia Gillard made an announcement that people will be obligated to relocate from their current homes to take up jobs elsewhere, or they will loose their welfare payments.

Michael Eckford and his running partner, Ms Crisalee Stevens, independent Senate candidates for NSW, argue that this policy is ill-founded and fundamentally flawed.

“This statement clearly demonstrates how out of touch PM Julia Gillard is with the real and desperate situation of our marginalized unemployed. If Gillard’s government had given real thought to this policy they would realize that there is a desperate shortage of affordable housing through out this country.”

“PM Gillard never mentioned that she would assist State housing authorities to build and provide low-cost housing.”

“PM Gillard failed to consider the social impacts that will result from this disastrous relocation policy. Eckford said, “Aboriginal people in NSW lived through the same policy in the mid 1970s only to realize that such a policy will cause family hardship, isolation, lack of family support networks, all of which has caused and inflamed complete family dysfunction.”

“The social and economic impacts on the people and the communities, where they will relocated to, will be very significant. History shows that stress and anxiety will result and petty crime will emerge a s a survival mechanism for those who will not cope.”

“Forced relocation is not an acceptable policy. Gillard’s so-called gift of $3000 and $6000 for those who relocate will barely meet the cost of moving and locating private rental accommodation.

Eckford concludes, “Those who are being targeted by Gillard’s policy are non-skilled or semi-skilled people. With the economists forecasting a double-dip economic downturn towards the end of the year or early next year, it can be guaranteed that these people who make the move will be the losers. This will create major social and economic disaster for the families concerned and Gillard has failed to talk of a safety net for these people.”

“As an independent Senator for NSW I will make every effort within the Parliament to make sure, if Gillard as PM implements this policy, I will vigorously pursue a safety net that will ensure the social and economic well-being for those who will affected.”

MEDIA RELEASE: Eckford calls for an immediate review of Free Trade Agreements

Goodooga

15 August 2010

Michael Eckford aka Anderson, farmer/grazier and Senate candidate for NSW, said today, “No matter where you look or with whom you speak farmers, graziers and those involved in other agricultural industries all agree that the ill-conceived international Free Trade Agreements are not always in the best interest of Australia.

“In the first instance most agree that the cheaper and lower quality imported products spell a death knell to many of our primary production industries. It is a fact that every sector of the agricultural industries are hurting economically.

“Too many of our farmers and their families have not had their economic status improved by these Free Trade Agreements. In fact,” Eckford argues, “we are seeing an economic decline throughout the majority of rural industries. Consequently we are witnessing an exodus from rural Australia.”

“The only rural sectors that can demonstrate any major success are those that are owned by the big corporate networks. It is a shame that we are now witnessing the demise of many of our small family farms in favor of the big corporations.”

“As an elected Senator I will be calling for an immediate review and an economic analysis of the impacts of the Free Trade Agreements on our agricultural industries. This I will do by calling for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to hear submissions from all stakeholders. The expected outcome would be to demonstrate the deficits created by the Free Trade Agreements.”

“I anticipate that, based on the current state of affairs, the Federal Government must act to protect and preserve the integrity of our primary production and the well-being of our rural communities and associated infrastructure.”

As an independent candidate for the Senate, Eckford, calls on the major parties to, “…commit to focusing on the long-term sustainability of our primary production industries, rather than promoting quick fixes for the short-term economic gains from mining, which only lasts a few decades in one area. Mining cannot be classified as a sustainable industry over the long term.”

“We need to acknowledge, that within all the discussion on climate change, world leaders are discussing the looming food shortages for the world’s population. We here in Australia have the opportunity to become a major provider, but this will not occur if the governments fail to ensure real and meaningful support for the farming and agricultural industries.” Michael Eckford concluded.

MEDIA RELEASE: Australia has to become a Republic

Friday 13 August

Aboriginal elder, political activist and Senate candidate for NSW, Michael Eckford (aka Anderson) said that, when elected, he and his Senate running partner, Criselee Stevens, will lead a New Way movement for Australia to become a Republic.

Michael Eckford said that he will reignite the move to have Australia become a Republic.  It is important for Australians to understand that we are still a franchised colonial state of Britain. PM Gillard’s suggestion for a preambular statement recognising Aboriginal people in the Constitution will be meaningless.” Michael Eckford argues.

“Both the Liberal and ALP have appeared to soften their views in this election to Aboriginal issues, as opposed to kicking us around with the race card, as has been the case in past election campaigns. But to falsely pretend to the electorate that they can meaningfully amend the Constitution to recognise Aboriginal Peoples is a farce.”

“In order to amend the Constitution it will require a national referendum and we know how difficult it is for referendums to succeed.” Michael Eckford argues.

“If they wish to go down this path, why not commence the process to emancipate the whole nation from its colonial past?”

“If the NSW proposal for recognition of Aboriginals is followed, then the question has to be asked, ‘If they didn’t do anything wrong to Aboriginal people, why do they seek to also include an indemnity clause in the NSW Constitution?’ Their argument for this indemnity clause is to prevent Aboriginal people from making legal claims against the State. This statement clearly admits that there has been a grave injustice, which has the potential to be litigated.”

“It is more important to open the books of the barbaric colonial period that all Australians should be aware of. Only then can we can we truly work towards reconciling our ongoing conflict.”

“The people whom we are about to elect will represent Australia as a nation, but are obligated to take an oath to serve Her Majesty the Queen, Australia’s Queen and head of our Nation. It is time for all Australians to take responsibility for their own future: politically by becoming a Republic; and economically by preserving our wealth rather than allowing Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott to give our resources and land away.”

“Elected leaders must become accountable to the people – NOT to the mining industry, to which they have become the puppets. Australia needs to establish its own sovereignty as a nation and break away from the influence of the international cartels, which control our economy. Our current political system needs a complete overall to address these issues.”

Drawing on his Aboriginal culture, Michael Eckford said, “Aboriginal people continue to lead the way by asserting our independence as diverse Peoples without allegiances to serve the Queen of England, nor do Aboriginal people approve of anyone acting as her representative in this country.

“The majority of the present Australian population are no longer anglophiles without any allegiance to the Crown of England.” Michael Eckford concluded.

MEDIA RELEASE: Penny Wong misleads public on MDBA Basin Plan

Michael Eckford (aka Michael Anderson) Senate candidate for NSW is an executive member of the MDBA Northern Basin Aboriginal Nations.

When asked why the  Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) failed to release its water strategy, Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water, Penny Wong, said (10/8/10) in a media conference in Adelaide with PM Julia Gillard that the Murray Darling Basin Authority is an independent authority which makes its own decisions, not at the request of the Minister.

Michael Eckford said today: “It is a blatant misrepresentation of the truth for Minister Wong to claim she has no power over the  Murray Darling Basin Authority and that it is an entirely independent authority.  The fact is that Penny Wong has discretionary powers over the MDBA and has used these powers and influence to instruct the MDBA on government policy issues.”

“It is my firm belief Minister Wong has exercised her authority to have the MDBA suppress their water strategy until after the election. To misrepresent the facts to the public during an election campaign is outright despicable.”

“This country is in a crisis over water management and over allocation and we need lively open debate.”

“Living on Country in NW NSW next to Cubby station, I have first hand experience of the water crisis and the destructive impact on natural ecosystems when water is diverted away  from wetlands and the floodplains for long periods, in order to supply the commercial needs of  large irrigators and mining companies.

“There has to be equity. When elected to the Senate I will work to improve water policies so that big corporations don’t have the monopoly over water allocations. We need to spread water fairly and this can be achieved by making smaller allocations available, which will be sustainable for irrigation by encouraging smaller family farms similar to Europe.”

“I will also work towards the health of the Murray Darling Basin, including the implementation of roster flows into riparian areas – our billabongs, swamps, wetlands, lagoons and backwaters, which are integral to the maintenance of totemic, native plants and animals important to Aboriginal culture.”
